Treatments · Same day
Some patients go home the same day. That is a selected pathway — medical, social, and therapy pieces have to line up. It is not guaranteed. If you stay overnight, that can still be the safer plan.

A pathway, not a calendar
AAHKS describes outpatient and early-discharge joint replacement as safe for selected patients when the team, the home setup, and the medical picture line up. Same-day discharge is a shared decision. Pain care is opioid-sparing, not opioid-free.
Stable heart and lungs. Diabetes under control. A person at home. A house that does not require a mountain. You will know before the day, not at 4 p.m. with a suitcase in your hand.
Selected patientsModern anesthesia, multimodal pain control, blood-clot prevention, and a written rescue plan. Quality and Safety is the design of the day, not a plaque.
Written planHome support, stairs, and medical conditions all matter. Staying the night is not a failure of the pathway.
Not a promiseHip and knee
Posterior, piriformis-sparing when the anatomy allows. See robotic hip replacement.
Robotic total knee and, when it fits, partial knee.
The aim is to control pain and reduce opioid use so you can walk early. Some people still need a short course. After hours: (305) 243-1000. Emergency: 911.
