Partial knee replacement in Miami

When arthritis is limited to one part of the knee, a partial replacement may be enough. Not everyone is a candidate. Imaging and an exam decide, not this page. Whether a robot is used is decided in clinic.

Who it may fit

One worn compartment. The rest of the joint kept.

AAOS patient education describes this as a shared decision — not a decision based on age alone. Ligaments have to be suitable. Pain in more than one part of the knee often points to a total knee instead. Many people still need a total.

Limited wear

One part of the knee

Discussed when arthritis is limited to one compartment and the rest of the joint is suitable.

Not everyone

Imaging and an exam

X-rays, and sometimes other studies, show the joint. This page cannot tell you that you qualify.

The robot

Case by case

Whether a partial knee is done with robotic-arm assistance is decided in clinic. The surgeon still operates.

Before surgery

Conservative care first for many people

Activity, therapy, medicines, and injections. See conservative care.

The procedure

Resurface only the worn part.

What is replaced

The worn compartment

Metal and a medical-grade plastic spacer take the place of the worn surfaces in that part of the knee. The rest of the joint is kept. Results vary.

Not a total knee
What it is not

Not a smaller-scar promise

A partial is an implant choice, not a guarantee of less pain or a faster calendar than a total. If a total is the honest operation, that is the conversation.

Decided in clinic
After surgery

A pathway, not a guaranteed calendar

Stand and walk when medically ready. Same-day discharge only when appropriate. Written milestones match your surgery. See outpatient joint replacement.

Opioid-sparing, not opioid-free

Questions

Partial knee replacement

What is a partial knee replacement?

Only the worn part of the knee is resurfaced. The rest of the joint is kept. It is discussed when arthritis is limited to one compartment and the ligaments are suitable.

Who is a candidate for partial knee replacement in Miami?

Not everyone. Imaging and a full exam decide. Many people still need a total knee. This page cannot assign a diagnosis.

Do you use the robot for a partial knee?

Whether a partial knee is done with the robot is decided case by case.

Will I go home the same day after a partial knee?

Some patients do, when medical and home factors line up. Others stay overnight. Same-day discharge is a selected pathway, not a default.

Is partial knee replacement opioid-free?

No. Care is designed to reduce opioid use. Some people still need a short course of opioid medicine.

Do you see partial knee patients at both campuses?

Yes. Tower West (Downtown / Midtown) and SoLé Mia (North Miami / Aventura / Broward) are both primary sites.
