How candidacy is decided
AAOS patient education describes hip replacement as a shared decision, not a choice based on an x-ray alone. History, exam, and imaging come first. Many people start with conservative care.
A website cannot tell you that your hip needs to be replaced. Pain, stiffness, and films are interpreted in clinic.
How the hip limits walking, sleep, and daily life. Prior treatment. Other health issues. Recent x-rays, and other studies when needed.
The usual approach is minimally invasive posterior / piriformis-sparing, when anatomy allows. This is not an anterior or “bikini” pitch.
AAHKS describes robotic assistance as a tool. It helps plan and guide bone work. Dr. D’Apuzzo operates. It does not guarantee less pain or a faster recovery.
The robot
The robot does not operate on its own. It is used for many primary replacements. Anatomy, implants, and the plan that day can mean a conventional instrumented hip instead.
Read robotic hip replacement for how the operation is planned. Compare methods on robotic vs conventional.
